Housing Justice & Tenant Protections
Housing is a human right, yet nearly 50% of us in Worcester struggle to afford housing.
We need bold, immediate action to address this crisis and protect those most impacted.
I am committed to fighting for a Worcester where everyone has access to safe, stable, and affordable
housing. That means:
-
Strengthening tenant protections, enacting rent stabilization, and
banning no-fault evictions to prevent displacement.
-
Expanding financial assistance programs for residents facing hardship
& increasing tax relief for low-income, senior, and disabled
residents.
-
Holding landlords accountable for providing safe, code-compliant
housing.
-
Supporting small, local landlords with resources and tax incentives to
maintain affordability.
-
Investing in deeply affordable housing, transitional housing, and
shelter access.
-
Exploring innovative solutions like home-sharing programs and
repurposing vacant buildings and lots for housing.
Worcester's housing market is being shaped by forces far beyond our neighborhoods. Between 2004 and 2019, 52% of investor purchases in Worcester were made by large or
institutional buyers, compared to 42.2% statewide. This level of speculative ownership
displaces residents and drives up costs.
We must shift the narrative: this isn't a landlord vs. tenant issue—
The real issue lies between local communities and exploitative profit driven development models.
Policies should focus on curbing speculative investments and supporting community-centered housing
solutions that prioritize tenants, local landlords, and homeowners.
I am committed to putting people first.
Public Health & Community Investment
Strong communities start with strong public health infrastructure.
I am committed to funding
life-saving services, investing in harm reduction, and making Worcester a safer, healthier city for all.
I will work to:
-
Fund community-based mental health and harm reduction services that
are accessible, trauma-informed, and designed to meet people's needs with dignity and care.
-
Support Overdose Prevention Centers to save lives and address the
opioid crisis with real solutions.
-
Expand non-carceral crisis response teams to reduce reliance on police
for mental health
emergencies.
-
Commit to Vision Zero principles — reduce traffic deaths by expanding
protected bike lanes,
pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and well-lit crosswalks.
-
Support free fare transit to improve access to jobs, healthcare, and
education.
Transparency & Accountability
Residents deserve a government that listens, acts, and works for them—not for corporate interests.
I will push for real accountability by:
-
Implementing participatory budgeting so residents have a direct say in
how city funds are spent.
-
Increasing transparency in city contracts & spending to prevent
backroom deals and mismanagement.
-
Establishing meaningful community review processes so decisions
reflect the needs and priorities of Worcester's people.
-
Identifying and reducing barriers to civic engagement, making it
easier for all residents—especially working people, renters, and marginalized communities—to
participate in local government.
A truly representative government starts with removing obstacles to participation
and ensuring every resident's voice is heard—not just those with money, privilege, and
connections.
I will work to make Worcester's government more open, accessible, and accountable to the people it
serves.
